Utter ("we," "our," or "us") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our mobile application.

1. Information We Collect

Account information: When you sign up, we collect your email address and any profile information you provide (such as your name).

Journal content: Your voice recordings and journal entries are stored to provide the service. This content is private and associated only with your account. When you use voice journaling, we send your voice recording, the date of your entry, and any existing journal text for that day to OpenAI for processing. We obtain your consent in the app before doing so.

Usage data: We may collect anonymized analytics to improve the app (e.g., feature usage, crash reports).

Device permissions: The app requests microphone access for voice recording and may request other permissions as needed for features you use.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Provide and maintain the Utter service
• Authenticate your account and secure your data
• Store and sync your journal entries across your devices
• Improve the app and fix issues
• Send important service-related communications

3. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored using Supabase, a secure cloud platform. We use industry-standard security practices including encryption in transit and at rest. Your journal content is protected by account-level access controls.

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

• Supabase – Authentication and database storage
• Apple/Google – Sign-in (OAuth) when you choose that option
• Analytics providers – To understand app usage and improve the product (data is anonymized where possible)
• OpenAI – For voice journaling, we send your voice recording, the date of your entry, and any existing journal text for that day to OpenAI, Inc. ("OpenAI"). This data is used solely to transcribe your speech and generate your journal entry. OpenAI does not use this data to train their models. OpenAI provides the same or equal protection for your data as described in their Privacy Policy. We obtain your consent in the app before sending any data to OpenAI.

These providers have their own privacy policies governing their use of data.

5. Your Rights

You can:

• Access and export your journal data through the app
• Delete your account and associated data from the app settings
• Request that we delete or correct your personal information

6. Children's Privacy

Utter is not intended for users under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by email where appropriate.
